Sorry maybe it sounds stupid, but I was testing out this great module when I simply added an alink item to change the word "linkhere" in a book page to some URL, and found that the word didn't change at all. Any idea how I could set this up? Thanks!

Have you defined what 'Content types' alinks applies to ?
see Site configuration Alinks

Also some cases alinks will not apply to word in a page which is geberated from a view, or maybe uses CCK fields

To test find a normal 'page' content type and create a link for a word on the page making sure page is selected in site config

Thanks, midkemia! That's where I missed out!

I, too, missed this. Perhaps because alinks shows up in both "site building" and "site configuration" administrative menus. I haven't seen that too often, so I didn't think to look in two places.

well i cannot get alinks to work and my node types are set.
i tried it with a basic node type without views.
should work i guess but it's not
dunno if an other module is conflicting
i even went to the filters within my html-filtered in case i had something there to add...
i cant see what's wrong

any idea?
