For some reason, this:

# ################################################################################ Shorten prompt and set version
echo "qs1204" | sudo tee /etc/hostname

does not work. If I set the machine name to qs1204 (rather than the qs10 in the current docs) during installation and comment out this line in the script, things go much smoother.

This also applies to http://drupal.org/node/1593200

There were some other hiccups and things that didn't complete (namely, Chrome, Eclipse, and the FEBE package) but I'm at work and can't find a quick fix right now.

Is the ubuntu user running the script, named "quickstart"?

Apologies again for lack of info. That line is here: http://drupalcode.org/project/quickstart.git/blob/refs/heads/7.x-2.x:/se....

The command I was running is:

bash ~/quickstart/setup_scripts/install-quickstart.sh

@tuzonghua thanks for getting back. thanks for clarifying which script was being run, however, I was asking about username?

In other words, the script is designed to be run on a clean install of ubuntu 12.04. When you installed ubuntu, it asked you to create a username, what is the username you used? (is the user called quickstart ... or something else -- like Michael or tuzonghua?)

My mistake. Following the old documentation, the username/password I used was quickstart/quickstart. If it is supposed to be something else, let me know.

hmm. sounds right. :-/ can you share more about your setup? version of Virtualbox? Host OS (Win? Mac? 64bit?)

also, what version of ubuntu did you start out with? 32bit? 64bit? is it another flavor? like xubuntu or lubuntu?

*sigh* One of these days I'll make an actual good reply.

My setup:

Oracle VirtualBox 4.1.16
Win 7 Pro (x64)
Core i5 processor
12 GB RAM

Started with vanilla 12.04 64-bit Ubuntu.

need to be tested in latest image -- but think this is now fixed

mike,

have you committed this? because i am running into the same problem on a clean 12.04 VirtualBox install.
is there another repo?

Also have quite a few other issues... ill post with screens shortly..

@philosurfer -- yes, committed to 7.x-2.x branch. it should run cleanly on vanilla image of ubuntu 12.04. any additional info would be appreciated. other issues ... please file separately so we can track each of them. (patches of course always welcomed!)

What I did was actually remove the code that changed the hostname -- didn't see a need for it. fwiw, -- and not to take this thread off topic, but I think there may be a problem using the virtual kernel -- so at least for the moment, I suggest not choosing that option when prompted to choose between a standard kernel or virtual.
