How do I fetch information from a link?

I'm looking for a module that does something similar to the "share link" button in Google+. In other words, when a user enters a link I'd like the system to fetch the URL and extract the title, first paragraph, image, etc. and prepopulate fields. Is there a module, or combination of modules, in any version of drupal that gets me there (or close)? Thanks.
