I want to display only the flags, without "Languages" word before flags.
How can it be made?

I was surprised myself that this option does not exist (or maybe I just did not find it), nevertheless, my workaround is to update .css definition to something like:

.block-locale ul li {width:16px;overflow:hidden}

Hope it helps.

I inserted this code to the beginning of style.css of the active theme, but nothing happened :(

Just choose "Replace link" under "Icon placement" on the options page.

Also, read up on priorities - feature requests are never critical. And don't assign yourself to an issue, unless you intend to fix it.

The "Replace icon" removes the language names only, but not the word "Languages" on top of the icons.

Just put <none> in the block's title .
