I think the need for drag & drop ordering of reaction rules is underestimated. Weights aren't only usefull for execution. They are far more useful for organizing reaction rules (ie. grouping then) to keep all the logic maintainable.

mitchell commentedWell, at least there are already people discussing it, #1045916: Add ability to sort rules by weight. That's the general state of ux issues: waiting for patches. Thanks for posting! Please search first in the future though.

Anonymous (not verified) commentedThanks for pointing there. I found that issue earlier, but it doesn't seem to focus drag & drop. It's about sorting the rules overview by weight and showing the weights and so on. So it doesn't seem to be a duplicate, although it's a kind way of getting rid of issues. ;)

Ah! My methods have been uncovered.. :-D Note to self, Shnapoo actually searches before he posts..... and posts in the related issues. :-)
I often mistake references to the overview page for rule configuration pages and vice-a-versa. The names for plugins and contextual meanings is sometimes hard for me to parse out. I'm looking forward to seeing how these drag and drop features play out. Btw, you might want to check out #1313396: Rules editing via drag-and-drop building blocks too.
If you can make it as easy as possible to understand what's going on in these issues and what needs to happen next for people who want to help write patches, then it would be a big help to getting things moving forward (at least in the short-term)... well at least from my "close, postpone, or clarify everything that doesn't have its ducks in a row" mentality... 14 pages of open issues is a b for any module maintainer and contributors... That leads me to an edit for the Rules issue queue guidelines!

tr commentedI don't see any compelling need to be able to sort the list of reaction rules by weight. Indeed, in D8 we have a much more effective means of filtering and selecting reaction rules from the list of rules, and if anything is to be done here at this point in time it must be done in D8 first then, and only then, backported to D7 IF there is interest from the community. I am not going to devote my (volunteer) time and effort to work on a feature that only 1 person out of the ~250,000 site using Rules cares about.
