I'm developing a social networking site and I was looking for a good theme for this kind of website. Do you have any favorite theme, which you would recommend for this kind of site?

If you wish to have unique web site, what you need is unique drupal theme (web design).

IMHO, your drupal theme should be simple and clean.

You could start from Zen Drupal Theme (see live demo at http://themegarden.org/drupal50/?q=node&theme=zen). Zen can be used as good base theme, as some kind of framework - it's very good for customisation.
