We need to document that the patch at http://drupal.org/node/1116408#comment-6040494 is necessary for redirect support to work. We probably should disable the redirect checkbox if MigrateRedirectEntityHandler doesn't exist.

OK, if you have Redirect enabled but do not have the handle class defined, instead of the checkbox you get a message telling you that you need the patch.
