I recently started with drupal. I am a little bit confused by the t function. Should all the strings in the module I am developing be in English?

Yes if you ever plan to submit the module to the community. Otherwise its your choice

I've found that it's better to do in English, even if the site language will be something else. It just ends up getting weird if it's not English.
