On the field setting page

admin/content/types/CONTENTTYPE/fields/FIELD

Data setting "Required" doesn't work.

When I create a new CONTENTTYPE, the FIELD can be left blank even if Required is enabled. No red asterisk is displayed for the field.

yep. not sure why this is happening. i learned about this behavior recently, and at first glance the code looks good. this is high on my priority list.
