If this is recommended to disable why is it enabled by default?

I'm usually using the status page because I think it's more secure if it's the only nagios check on a remote system (mostly managed by others).
But I think it's better to deactivate by default especially when NRPE is the main path to use by many people.

The patch #1 is quite simple. I have applied and tested it with success.
So please commit.
