The presence of the Janrain block in the login form is causing errors in IE 8. With the debugger enabled, I see:

Error: 'RPXNOW' is undefined

The line references is:
RPXNOW.realm = "intent-project.rpxnow.com";

Unsurprisingly the buttons don't work. Note however that login via Janrain (Facebook) does work in IE 9 and Chrome so its not a firewall, cross-site scripting, PHP version, etc. issue.

I can leave Janrain Core switched on but as soon as I activate "Janrain Engage Widgets", the error appears.

I am having this same issue but it only does it with a custom theme and I am in chrome.
though I am running 7.x

We're certainly using a custom theme, built in Zen.
