For some strange reason, the default block provided by the login function of this module does not display properly on the front page, but shows up fine elsewhere. I've checked to make sure the properly xmlns meta tags are present - not sure what's going on here.

Sounds like you've put the block in a region that's not part of your front page. Drupal can get complicated like that.
