The emfield dependency is my least favorite part of FBSMP because it adds a totally unnecessary dependency on CCK. What emfield provided for us was integration with various media services, and if I remember correctly the motivation behind this was to allow copy-pasting in links to e.g. YouTube into the Link plugin field and converting those links to Video plugin data.

Short term, I'm okay with removing that feature. Ultimately it should probably be replaced by Media module integration, which provides similar integration with various services. This will basically require figuring out what the equivalent Media module settings and APIs are. It may or may not be easier to start by just completely removing emfield integration and coming at this from the perspective of we want to be able to use the link plugin as a gateway to the video plugin and how we can achieve that. (This would also have the advantage that it would make the module usable sooner since people can use it without that feature but it's broken as long as that feature is there but not working.)

I tried using D6 version of fbsmp with the following modules

  1. emfield
  2. media_youtube

I added you tube links and expected to convert in to a embed video. But I could not see any difference, It just acted as a normal link.

I don't remember the exact setup required... anyway grepping for "emvideo"/"emfield" is probably the best way to start on this.

Is there any update on this thread for media module upgrade for D7 ? Currently, for D7 link module doesn't seem to work for link plugin.
