Fatal error message when trying to save modules

I am trying to install a calendar. I try now to upload a new module such as gcal and when I go to click save I keep getting error messages such as:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function _views_prepare_handler() in /home/lambton/public_html/sites/all/modules/views.module on line 1122

I want to have this calendar on the front page as it is a site for 22 churches to post their events etc.

I have spent 3 days attempting to get a calendar uploaded and have failed each time.

Here is one site which has something similar to one error message I have:
http://drupal.org/node/1411862

Also, to add to this mess, I cannot load to the Appache server:
http://drupal.org/node/1446652

Any help would be amazing...thks
