I had already rolled my own module to solve a similar problem before user_autorole was brought to my attention, so rather than add a duplicate project I'd like to help out with user_autorole and get it to the release stage.

Do you have a cvs account yet? I couldn't find you in the autocomplete...

You can take over as maintainer if you like, I have been so busy with Gmap and Category that I never had time to finish this module....
