Porting Commons site to a local install breaks views

Hello

I have a drupal commons site that I have porter twice now to a local environment and I have the same issues. When I attempt to edit views there are a number of handlers which are broken. For example node->type handlers and handlers for CCK content, probably others. Is this a common (no pun intended) issue? Right now I am attempting to uninstall Commons and Views and then reinstall them but if there is a better way or any ideas about fixing this please let me know...
