Please help! New content not posting - only in Admin
johlin - July 27, 2007 - 17:07
Hello.
I'm not sure how this occurred but all new content (like blogs, forums, etc.) that is being submitted is not being posted and only the ADMIN is able to view it. This started happening a couple days ago; all previous content is unaffected and visible. I checked all the permissions etc. and I think everything is set correctly.
Please help. Any suggestions are welcome!

Published?
You might double-check that all the new content is published. If it's not - you might check the default settings for your content types. (You can have new content published by default - or not.)

I checked (and double-checked!)
~ Under 'Contenet Tyepes" Blogs are set to be published.
~ Under 'Content' the hidden blogs are shown to be Published.
I tried unpublishing and then republishing, but they still only are only visible to the Admin and not to regular members!
Any more ideas or suggestions?!!!
I still need help!
Anybody?
Just to make sure -
Have you had a user go directly to the url for one of these invisible posts? If so, what did they get? An access denied error?

Yes
Yes, they get an Access denied error. So what do I? Do I have something not set correctly?
What modules are you using?
Are you using any access control modules?
Should anonymous users be able to see this content? Or only authenticated users?
And - could you post a URL?

Not sure...
I'm not sure what is classified as an Access Control module, but I did install CCK and Panels and it seemed that after that the problem started, but I'm not currently using them. Oh - and Organic Groups, also disabled.

Thank you so much for your assistance,
Ok -
CCK and panels shouldn't be affecting whether or not content is accessible (although they might affect who can post what). Organic groups might be a better culprit, but I've never used it myself, so you'd need to ask someone with some experience with that module.
The only thing I can thing of would be to double check your role permissions for anonymous and authenticated users, but I'm sure you've done that already. 'access content' being the permission to check first.
I registered on the site and tried posting a few blog entries. I didn't see my posts in the 'my blog' section or in the tracker for my username... Honestly, the only time I've seen that behavior was when the posts were not published. You could try removing some of the options there though just to make sure there isn't some kind of interference - like the image attach, the ability to change input formats, make sure preview isn't required before posting - comment moderation and the 'send to friend' option.
Also - check your log entries. Maybe there's an error that's occurring every time someone attempts to post. (For example - 404 errors can sometimes interfere with file uploads in my experience)
What roles do you have defined? By 'admin' do you mean the first user? Or a role you defined with global privileges?

FIXED!!!!
Dear Jastraat:
Thanks so much for your time in helping me. Your last message got me looking into 'access content' idea and I stumbled upon a sort of permission reset button. This was the path:
Administer » Content management » Post settings
This gave me an option to reset the permissions to whatever the current settings are. The strange thing is, that after doing the reset the option doesn't seem to be available now. So maybe it's only available after something has changed. In any case, it is working again.
Just so you know, I deleted your profile, as I 'm sure you can't join every site that's experience technical difficulties!
Thanks again,
Johannes

Glad it worked out!
*grin Thanks for deleting my profile - you're right, that would get overwhelming very quickly!

organic groups was my culprit
Hi -
I came across this thread when I was having the same frustrating experience - all published content was only visible to the admin.
Thanks to the suggestions on this page I figured out that Organic Groups was causing the glitch. Fortunately I didn't need OG, so I just disabled the module and everything worked just fine.
So thanks!
