I am using the CVS version with the latest Drupal 4.5.2.

When I use the FCKEditor's smileys, they show up during editing, but are removed from the final display after clicking submit. When I change the filter from "filtered HTML" to "full html" they appear.

I am also using the smileys filter, which converts emoticon text into a graphic.

What can I do to fix this?

Just an idea, but are Only local images are allowed. tags getting filtered out on your filtered html? That would be my first guess.

Yes indeed. It was a combination of me not understanding the filter interface well and editing the wrong filter, and the tags getting stripped. Also, the order of the filters makes a difference.
