On node creation, I'd like to assign a value to the node's viewfield but the field does not appear in the list of available fields, even if I bring it into scope first with Entity Has Field.

Updating to 7.x-3.x. Whatever changes required I think we'd limit their introduction to this branch. I want to only support minimal bug and security fixes on 7.x-2.x which is in heavy use on presumably older, stable sites.
