I have a number of different categories that links can be assigned to. However, as ever, you could always just not assign them, leaving them marked as . I'm fairly sure at some point these links appeared at in the top level of weblinks, but they no longer do so- they simply disappear as far as finding them through the weblinks directory goes (they are still created fine though and exist as content).

is there a setting to make them appear? where should they appear in weblinks directory?
