Active primary link coding

I've been trying all day to get the active link (the page you're currently on) to code so that the tab at the top of the page changes. So when you're on the news page, the news tab should be a different color.

I've been searching through the site, and most of the solutions I found were for 4.x and didn't work.

I found one for 5.x, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything (http://drupal.org/node/87902).

We're not using anything special for the primary links -- just the menu module.
