I think it is because of the Hierarchical Select module. Makes no sense though because my Hierarchical Select module has nothing to do with basic pages.

If I go into basic page settings and remove the Menu option all together. Everything is fine.

check the issue queue for a module that is giving you trouble and/or post your issue there as opposed to in the general forum.
