Would like to know if I can log myself back into a drupal-based site when it is "off-line" after I logged out to "see what it looked like". I am the admin account.

should work
Also, as an fyi, use a different browser (opera, firefox, konqueror, epiphany, etc.) to view the site as an anonymous user.

/user, why didn't I think of that?
Thanks M.J.
Hadn't gotten acclimated to this new software yet. I just assumed that there'd be a login screen easily accessible.

http://www.whateveryourdomainnameis.com/user can be used if an option"clean urls" is enabled.
Otherwise, use http://www.whateveryourdomainnameis.com/?q=user .

many thanks for your help.
many thanks for your help. I've only just started using drupal and was a little confused when I managed to lock myself out of my page. but thanks to an overly specific search on google "logging into drupal after setting it offline" and your comments I can now get back to work.
