I don't know how hard / easy this could be, but I think it could be useful to exclude certain URL's from the "custom breadcrumbing" so that thouse URL's would have the default breadcrumb, and every other URL not listed there would keep the modified one.

Think this could be useful or easy to do?

Interesting idea, but at this point I don't think its worth it. The 6.x-2.x-dev version implements path based breadcrumbs. With Drupal 7 on the horizon, backporting to 5 isn't a priority.
