hi there
my current website which is running on Joomla is
it is a community music portal website, what i have been looking for is something veryyyy similar to Project Opus
I have not been able to find anything similar on any other CMS other than Drupal

my question is this, if i install drupal now, would i be able to get the same sort of thing as project opus running? or not yet? as i understand they are releasing code, but i couldnt find any information on how to get the code and go about installing the modules etc... i am not used to drupal, as a matter of fact i have never used it, so moving from joomla is not going to be easy for me
i have a lot of users, which i would like to transfer over, a few news articles wit comments on them left by the users and also comments under songs left by users.. would these also be possible to bring over to drupal? as i dont really want to lose them

i would really appreciate any help you could give me, joomla isnt really doing what i want, and drupal seems like a good move, but like i said, i dont want to lose certain information i already have on my site

Im also willing to pay someone to transfer for me if possible, as i dont know much about PHP, mysql etc.. so if someone was able to transfer my site over to drupal intact and give me something similar to project opus id be willing to pay

thank you so much
i look forward to a reply

"I want it to be like Project Opus" is a little vague. What features (or intended features) are you looking for? As Project Opus has not been released... there is nothing to look at... or compare to.

Specific features are easy for people to look at and say "yes Drupal can do that" and tell you how easy or difficult it would be to implement.

In general, Drupal is far more flexible and elegant than Joomla...

Since your site still has limited content, I think it would be quite easy to move to Drupal, even if it means taking each post, manually and moving it... though I am sure there is a more elegant porting solution!

the handbooks has a section on migrating from other software. there is a page dedicated to migrating from joomla/mambo see: http://drupal.org/node/80195

thanks for the reply

basically, project opus has many cool features i need for a music site

basically, my website deals with unsigned hiphop artists who come to the site, register and upload their music into their own folders for others to download
users are also able to rate the songs and leave comments on them
thats the main feature of my site, i also need users to be able to listen and download the songs, whatever they choose

other features i need are a shout box, news articles with comment system and also a video player where i can stream .FLV movie files on my site (with comments and rating)

those are really the main features i need, can drupal give me those features?
what modules would i be looking at here?
Also, if you look at my site now .. i need similar sort of template, i dont really want to change the design
ill also need a message board and a gallery

thats it really for now

having user profiles and messaging system between users would also be a really good thing, but not as important as the other features right now

thank u so mucn

you want to investigate:

The audio.module for audio
with regards to voting, investigate the "rating & evaluation" category of downloads there are many
shoutbox.module will handle your shotbox desire
news w/comment system can be handled by core, you can create a news content type, with the CCK.module

my advice is to set up a test site and begin to get your feet wet with Drupal core, then begin to test out the modules that you think you want, or know you want and begin to evaluate which ones will work best for your idea.

one more quick question,
my current template im using on joomla has been customized to my liking and i really wanna keep the look, iv decided to move to drupal but keeping the same look is very important to me
i really like the sleek look and feel of the project opus template too

is it possible to have my template converted or are there any templates similiar to mine (www.persianhiphop.com) that i can customize or any similar ones to project opus i can get hold of?
iv looked on the drupal themes site but cant find anything, all the templates are dull!! (sorry)

thank u

The object is to start with a Drupal theme that has your overall layout. Liquid or fixed ?

Then tweak it to your liking using the themeing section of the handbook. Project Opus makes used of "regions" or "panels" They don't come auto built into a theme beyond what you see. Themeing requires some legwork on your part, and some blood, sweat & tears. At the very least some time and sleep deprivation : )

The handbooks video casts section has a few vids to help, and XHTML themes can be converted. OSWD.org is a good place to also look to find a theme that you would like to enhance and make yours. As well as documentation like : http://www.blkmtn.org/Quick-and-dirty-OSWD-theme-to-Drupal which can easily be found using google.
