Greetings,

I have Forum, OG Forum and Category module installed, and prior to installing Category module group forums were visible only to members of the group. Now, however they are visible to everyone. Or if I install Category Access Control Lite, they are visible to no one, including people in the groups.

Is there a way to restore this functionality?

I found out that there is a manual way to set group permissions on a forum:
- Go to admin/content/category/1
- Edit the group container
- Check the desired group and uncheck Public in Audiences

This way if someone doesn't have permissions to the group, they will not see this forum on forum listing page or drop-down menus.

This should be done automatically - does anyone have any ideas on how to make this work?

Yes, I'm bumping into the same thing. I THOUGHT with my original testing (without category module) that the forums were being created as private, but now (with category module) they are visible and I have to go into the category to change the permissions.
