Convert pligg based site to drupal

dingo001 - August 5, 2007 - 18:58

I have a pligg based site that I have been using for a while but after a week of using drupal, I see great potential. This is kind of an oddball question but has anyone tried to convert a pligg based site to drupal, I know that hugg.com did just that and I got a tip that the vote up/down module will handle voting.

I guess, is there a way to transfer the existing data such as user accounts/links/number of votes and the whole thing over to drupal? Any ideas on where to start?

Hey there, I think we spoke about this this morning. I converted the hugg.com site over - setting up a fresh Drupal-based Digg clone isn't too tough, and in fact there are a number of tutorials on it scattered around, if you do a Google search. (There are still a few features I'm working on, like the best way to do remote voting widgets - I've seen a few tips, but I haven't tested.)

I'd love to find a good way to import all the past data - we really want to do that at some point, but we're a little strapped for time and manpower for developing something like that. If we could get together a small group of people here who are interested in sharing the development, I'd love to take part and do what I can to facilitate that.

I think we should somehow get the "Bury" feature over here. Already having Jquery, it couldn't be to difficult to trigger the opacity.

Now the negative vote, might be a little tricky. Any reason you went with Vote Up/Down module instead of Drupalit ?

I would like to share in the dev, help in any way I can. Let me know what you need

BTW, do you know if these drupal forums have a notification option on posts that have been commented on? I would like an email saying that someone replied to my post.

Since Drigg is a Drupal based Digg clone, perhaps that is the best place to start. Make sure that Drigg will do what you need and then create an importer form Pligg to Drigg (or pligg2drigg, as they say).

There are several conversion modules that exist, but they are generally of mixed quality. Modules that get used on a regular basis tend to be good, but migration scripts are "use once and forget" kinds of things so people only make them work as well as they need them too. If you all are interested in getting a migration script built but don't have the ability to write it yourself a good way to go is to create a bounty. I'll bet someone would be willing to build this if there were a bounty.

The importer already exists...

Hi,

Drigg comes with a Pligg importer!
It's only version 1.0, so it probably needs some testing. However, it's there...

Bye,

Merc.
