All the joy of using SWFTools simply vanished as I' m struggling for two days now to get the module working with downloads set in private mode, and file path set outside public_html as /home/user/files . Any ideas of how to get this working?

I am sorry to say that "private" setting is unsupported out of the box. I may look at this later.
