Get Drupal in your local Wikipedia right by 9/8/7

drupal in wikipedia 9/8/7 programWikipedia has become a major source of information for many people. Therefor it makes sense to have Drupal listed on all languages that Wikipedia offers. Right now Drupal is listed in 22 languages which is good but we can expand this to even more languages and we can make the current information better. For example, the English entry of Drupal is rather good but still needs some work, see for example the "citation needed".

Some other languages sometimes only have a oneliner or are old and outdated, listing old versions of Drupal. So here is a call to everyone that has a browser and can write in one or more languages: go to Wikipedia, search for your language(s) and start an entry about "Drupal" or make the current one better. Note that it does not have to be limited to the term "Drupal" itself, you can write as well about for example the Drupal Association citing the FAQ.

If you ever wanted to contribute to the Drupal project but can not code, make a theme or write quality documentation pages, this is a very good way to contribute. And if we all do this, we can make sure that by 9 August 2007 (9/8/7 in European time format) we can have more languages covering Drupal and have better information about Drupal! So show your love and start writing about Drupal on Wikipedia but remember: keep it unbiased, factual and fair!

Nice idea.But Wikipedia

themegarden.org - August 6, 2007 - 13:31

Nice idea.

But Wikipedia isn't only web site with outdated info about drupal.
For example, Drupal page on freshmeat.net - http://freshmeat.net/projects/drupal/ - was updated on 03-May-2006 (Drupal 4.7.0)
:-(

A good idea

I saw this one on the docs mailing list! Perhaps drupal showing up on mailing lists will get more to help us out with translations and other internationalization things (currency/nation modules, etc).

I count 23 languages today.

Dries - August 7, 2007 - 11:11

I count 23 languages today so it looks like one language has been added. Let us know in the comments if you added and entry or improved any existing ones.

Drupal entry in Greek

GoofyX - August 7, 2007 - 11:42

Well, here's my contribution. I already started improving the existing Drupal article (which was rather poor) for the Greek version of Wikipedia (http://el.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drupal). The improvement is based on translating the english article. I've already uploaded a screenshot of a default Drupal 5.2 installation with the Greek language imported and the interface in Greek.

I thought that translating the english article is a good idea, since the english wikipedia is the most complete of all. Do you agree with this?

And a last thing, is that the english article has been tagged as an advertisement-like article and needs a bit of re-writing to comply better with the "neutral-point of view" of Wikipedia.

Turkish wikipedia is ready

wmostrey - August 8, 2007 - 07:01

I do think it's important to check with the Wikipedia standards because currently the English entry is listed as a "potential advertisement":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drupal

indeed

bertboerland@ww... - August 8, 2007 - 08:11

it says now: "This article or section is written like an advertisement.
Please help rewrite this article from a neutral point of view per Wikipedia policy."

however, reading the text it seems from my POV fair and unbiased. I think there is an automated process that looks for "fast changes" in an entry and some people complained about the article. Once again, we need to be unbiased but I think the EN version of Drupal is fair.

joomla!

bertboerland@ww... - August 8, 2007 - 08:23

a joomla! fan complained that the article sounded like an add, yet it is funny to see that in the joomla entry there is no criticism whats however (for example the lack of understanding of the GPL untill 1 month ago)

also drupal is now listed in 26 languages and most of them have been updated recently heavily
