This is actually an issue with Panopoly Widgets which provides the submenu functionality. The problem occurs when the menu widget is configured with a starting level of anything other than '1st level (primary)' - It's set to '2nd level (secondary)' in the case of the submenu that appears on the Open Academy People page. Wen configured like this, the IPE preview doesn't work in both the pane style and pane settings modals.

It seems to work great with the latest dev-version - except on the pane settings page, the actual link of the menu is not included.

This could be a part of the automatic Behat test - if we have figured out how to test the automatic preview yet. #2149171: Write Behat tests for Panopoly "submenu" widget

I just tested this on the latest Panopoly and couldn't reproduce - on submenus with starting level of secondary, I was able to see the preview on both the pane settings and style settings. I think this was probably fixed in the last menu_block upgrade: #2259793: Update 'menu_block' module to 2.4

Please re-open if you're still experiencing the issue and can give more details instructions to reproduce it!
