"my own stuff" between comments list and comment form

hellohello,

I'd love to know how I can put 'my own stuff' in between the comments list and the comment form.. I don't mind it it' underneath the the comments or above the form - in the end it should just be -in-between-...

I have my own 'pager'-buttons for simple next-/previous-functionality in one quite complex tpl.php - and I show them as little buttons [<] and [>] above each entry.. - ..but that's not enough, since there might be long lists of comments following an entry - and I'd like to offer a second 'chance' to browse to the next entry..

I tried already to get a grip on the function "comment_render" but could not override it in the phptemplate.. I tried also to count all the comments in the comment.tpl.php and then show some extra lines of code after the last comment is shown - but this didn't work either..:|

I'd love to be able to override the appropriate function - but.. - ..how/where/what..?¿ I'm a bit puzzled what I should try next - any suggestions..?
