How to make AT Commerce a sub-theme to AdaptiveTheme?

I have installed Drupal 7 and configured it. I also installed AdaptiveTheme. Isn't that just a matter of downloading it and extracting it into the sites/all/themes folder?

Next is AT Commerce. But it says to install it as a subtheme. Since the names are already different, I can place that into a second folder inder sites/all/themes - simply with its extracted folder name. Is that not true? Does something else have to be changed?

In previous exercises, I created a sub-theme for Zen, but that was just changing a name and a few items in some files. This isn't needed for AT-Commerce, is it?

Just install it.

Install AT Commerce and AdaptiveTheme at sites/all/themes. Go under appearance -> themes to activate AT Commerce.

AT Commerce is a fully-realized sub-theme of adaptive theme, whereas when you copied & renamed STARTERKIT under the zen theme, this was just providing the 'skeleton' in which to build your zen sub-theme.
