Hey mate,
I reckon this module has the potential to brilliant, been hanging out for something like this for a while now. There are quite a few things we need to do to get it functional for us.
Do you have a bit of a roadmap for this module? I'd like to work with you to get this thing fully functional. Heres some of my ideas:
- I have already made a pictures_flash_gallery module that displays a simpleviewer gallery for the pictures attached to a node (eg: flash_gallery module). Unfortunatley this requires hacking the actionscript of simpleviewer, and you have to pay to get code access, so I don't think I can release this module. (unless simpleviewer modify their free offering)
- My gallery only works with the "files-in-nodes" method, I would like to expand it to work as "nodes-in-terms".
- I suggest a bit of renaming might be in order. I think the current gallery module should be called something like "picture repository" or "remote gallery integration" (its a bit confusing when ppl are used to the image_gallery module.
- Instead of "Publish or Unpublish" maybe call it "Publish Method: Node or File"
- I desperately need users to be able to attach pictures to nodes without access to the entire picture repository! Maybe each picture should be associated with a uid, and then have a "own pictures only" permission? Or maybe have a picture attach that bypasses the whole gallery bit, and attaches straight to the node.
- Also need multiple repositories - but I understand you are working on that?
- Eventually it would be nice to let users crop the image for themselves using a javascript cropper. We did up a module like this sometime back, but never ended up finishing or releasing it. I will look into using our old code, or integrating with something like snipshot. (http://snipshot.com/).
Let me know what you think.
Cheers,
Chris

Also, if we theme the node to show the primary picture, a block that shows any other pics for that node would be nice. (so that it can be placed in the sidebar)

See http://drupal.org/node/167528
However, I think a lot of what you raised, could and should be implemented.
I'm not familiar with some of what you mentioned, for instance, the node-in-terms under point 2.
The idea of multiple repositories was a definite goer, but I am a little hard pressed for time, to be able to develop it much further. When I can, I plan to do a lot more work.

rhys CreditAttribution: rhys commentedHi, I've been working on some of the features that you have pointed to, but required an expanded solution for the problems I was facing. I created a module called Media Manager to hopefully create the kind of directionality that I think you where pointing to.
I've also been unfortunately very busy, so I haven't totally completed everything which I would like to have.

rhys CreditAttribution: rhys commentedThis module is being "retired". Please refer to the above mentioned module, since it will perform all the features of the this module, and I'll be maintaining http://drupal.org/project/mmedia instead.
