I recently installed Drupal and love it. I would like to replace the default Drupal logo with something very similar but different in a sort of a way. Something news related. I run a news like site. Can anyone please point me to a some open source clipart collection or maybe a logo creator or maybe a logo? I use Gimp and I dont' know much about graphic design. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you in advance.

PS: I use garland theme.

Have a look at http://www.inkscape.org/

On there site you'll also find another useful link to the Open Clip Art Library: http://www.openclipart.org/

Other than that, you might want to spend some money on getting a decent logo created. Sitepoint.com got a Contest section where you can start a logo design contest.

Replacing the default logo with almost any kind of logo (gif, jpg, png) is then quite simple, but in the contest, also request it as a vector image.

I have been looking for the same thing, I ended up just creating an all text logo with inkscape, which is a great program by the way. There is a lack of GOOD free online logo designers out there in the world. There are some that generate some pretty 80's looking graphics, but besides that, you will end up paying.
