Adjusting width of individual main menus items

I'd like to have the width of my main menu items individually contract to the size of their text (with a margin). In other words, I do not want the width of my "Home" main menu item to be as wide as my "Survival Guides" main menu item.
If i could assign a unique fixed width for individual main menus that would work too, but there seems to be no way to do that either.

I referring to a horizontal menu with "Home" as the first main menu item followed by "Survival Guides" as the next main menu item, etc....
