Hi folks.
This is really a comment rather than a forum topic. For the last week i have been strugling to get clean URLs working and at last it works!!! so i thought i would share how i managed it.
After reading the clean URL instruction page about 100 times and researching all sorts of things i don't want to know about (htaccess files, mod rewrite...etc) the solution was very easy

My host is Servage (which so far has been very good).
All you have to do is go into your servage admin page. On the left there is the menu, select "web server" and then "set htaccess files" . Turn it on... and wala! mod rewrite is turned on and my web page crashed! internal server error [500]. I sent a ticket to servage and about 1hr later they changed something on their side and it works. I can now go into my drupal admin and turn clean URLs on... yipee!!!

...is if a simple email to their support department could speed up their servers. I just got an account at www.polurnet.com and although I haven't completely moved my website over yet, I can already tell the responsiveness is x2-x4 better than servage.net.
