Currently, we allow an "editor" to "Article: Create new content" from a normal install, but since access_content or "View published content" is not allowed for anyone, node_access bails way before it even starts looking for more detailed permissions.

I'd make a patch, but I currently can't figure out why "ns_roles" is no-where in the features list, so I can't recreate it.

I haven't experienced this, access content should be on for anonymous and authenticated users, which means everyone.
