Unexpected behavior from "Show only on the listed pages" feature

I just upgraded from 4.7 to 5.2 and I have a block with the "show only on the listed pages" option set, and "en/node/*/edit" in the "Pages" box. For some reason, the block is always displayed on "access denied" pages. The specified path worked perfectly on Drupal 4.7 with i18n--the block in question appearing only on English pages that were being edited, which inferred that it was to be displayed only to authenticated users. Now I've had to check "authenticated user" to keep it hidden from anonymous users when they're asked to log in. That isn't a solution, however, nor does is explain why the block appears only on "access denied" pages and nowhere else. This issue seems to be somewhat related to this one.
