Hi,
I'm planing for a new project, it will be sort of local niche-social network... long ago I have opted to developing all my new stuff using D7... but this time is a little bit different so I need your opinions
Why is this time different (why I need D6)?
1- it will contain a Q & A section that I'm planning to implement using views and Vote Up Down and the stuff..
2- it will feature an advertisement system (pretty much what the ad project provides) --mainly the ad views and clicks reporting system
everything else in the project specs can be done with d7, I guess. ...but I'm affraid to go with d6 coz I'll miss fields and entities and all these lovely stuff, how do you usually end this debate on your projects ??.... also if I start a project on D6 now.. am I leaving my client in the cold ?!
Thanks in advance :)

personally, i would not start any new projects with d6. If I need a module that's not available for d7 I contribute to getting the d7 version usable.

that's what I would think too
that's what I would think too when talking about smaller modules which even a complete rewrite would not be a big issue, but with the case of something like ad module.... I know it will be a considerable amount of development hours that the project deadline will not allow (and sure I can't charge the client for such a thing :D) what do you think ?

No one can really answer that but you-- as I said, I don't start any new sites on d6 anymore. imo doing so, and guaranteeing an unnecessary costly and time consuming upgrade to d7 isn't doing anyone, paying clients or no, any favors.
Moreover, given that the ad module doesn't have even a minimally functional d7 port this far into d7 seriously calls into question its viability anyway. Obviously no one has yet found it important enough to do. Maybe simpleads is an acceptable alternative.

reconsider your requirements / expectations
One, two, or even a dozen specific modules should not hinder you from using Drupal 7.
There are a host of new features that may allow you the same functionality without the need for D6 modules.
There is always more than one approach to a problem.
Before you build an already-outdated site in Drupal 6, make absolutely certain there isn't a way to solve your problem in D7.
It may take some time to learn the new systems in D7, but it is well worth it.
Why is that so? Is Drupal 6
Why is that so? Is Drupal 6 not done yet or is it not working? I've have 6 already.

d6 is an excellent version of drupal, but it's also 1 version behind and approaching end of life. Why would you want to consciously choose an old version and guarantee a time consuming painful upgrade in the future? Would you install WinXP on a pc now instead of using Win7?
