It's a little early for an April Fools joke. Drupal 5.2 was just released last month and D6 is hot on its heels.

This question made me think of a comment made by Chris Pirillo here http://chris.pirillo.com/2007/08/14/radio-silence-3/:

I’m also learning that intelligent Drupal developers are in absolute short supply - to the point where I don’t think the platform will be around for too much longer.

I do understand that good drupal devs are in short supply, but I think that that's bound to change - there are some really good books coming out that will help people improve their skills, and the activity on the drupal forums is an indication that there are many people working in drupal, and surely these people will in time become skilled in drupal development?

I think it may also be a case of Chris being a bit sensational?

No posts on the website? Which website are you going to? There are hundreds of forum posts and project posts, new contributed modules, Drupal 6 freeze getting ready for alpha releases....
