I realize that this is probably specific to the theme I'm using, but I'll post my question more generically since it may apply to more than just the theme I'm using...

What are some possible reasons why textareas might not be properly replaced in some themes? What is the WYSIWYG module looking for in order for a proper replacement to be made?

If it helps, I'm using CKEditor and the TB Sirate theme.

it ended up being jquery update that was messing things up.
