Hi everyone,
I am looking for some sort of module that will allow users to pay for downloadable files and be able to purchase and download the files online instantly without having to create an account in drupal.
I originally planned to use e-commerce but from what I have read, E-commerce still requires a user to create an account, which I would rather not have needed, it could cause users to go somewhere else if its too much of a hassle.
Ubercart supposedly had or has a module that will allow downloads, but on checking the website for ubercart I do not see that module anywhere.
Quickfile seems almost like a perfect solution, it needs no account to be created and within a few clicks (and a purchase) the user has the file.
HOWEVER, Quickfile is still a Dev module (still in development) and I can see no activity from the maintainer/creator at all in the issues queue for quickfile.
Can anyone suggest another module ? Any solution for this issue ?
Thanks
sean

On closer inspection,
On closer inspection, Ubercart DOES have a file download ability...BUT Unfortunately, Just Like E-Commerce the customer would need to create an account to be able to use it.
Unfortunately, I think that would cost sales, since people want to get in, get their product, and get out and not worry about signing up for drupal accounts....
Any other solutions out there ?
Thanks

ecommerce 3.3 has a module in it called ec_anon, which should allow anonymous users to make purchases ?

I had read that you still
I had read that you still needed to login to grab the file purchase.
(It appears in "My Files" location in drupal)
On a test, e-commerce fails for file download for anonymous user
On a test, e-commerce fails for file download for anonymous user. I made a couple changes (changed mininum payment allowed from paypal from $5.00 to $0.01, and made a price change from $0.00 to $0.01 for a test file), logged out, and tried to purchase the file.
I was able to pay, but unfortunately when re-directed back to the website, no way to grab the file, IE - No "My Files" menu for anonymous users. So in effect I charged myself $0.01 without being able to deliver.
(In spite of all e-commerce settings changed to flexible to allow anonymous purchases and collection of my email address.)

maybe filing an issue report on the ecommerce module (ec_anon addon) would prove fruitful so that the developers themselves, and the ecom users at large can have a look. I personally don't allow anon purchases, as this does not allow me to collect user data in any way which to me is as important as the product sale itself.

Linklok - not free though
About a year ago, I looked for days for such a solution for a static website. I picked Linklok ($30) and I've been quite happy with it.
Right after paying, customers are directed to a download page. They are also sent more download links in an email. The documentation (a year ago) was not great, but sufficient. The email support was excellent. Performance over the last year has been nearly perfect. I would guess it should work fine on a Drupal site so anonymous visitors can buy a download without setting up a Drupal account. (I agree, this could cut sales WAY down.)
Here's a link. http://www.vibralogix.com/products.htm I have no connection to them, other than being a satisfied customer.
But hey, if you find a module that does this for free please post it. 'Free' is good because it's free, but 'free' is better because there are no limits on its use. Linklok is great, but it has a 1-domain limit. Additional licenses are half-price ($15) though, which really isn't too bad.

seanm, any updates on this topic?
Quickfile module works
I'm using the Quickfile module and Paypal for anon. users to instantly download files and it works. The only downside seems to be the customer can only order one product at a time.
Ubercart does the trick for digital media
I suspect that uBercart development has moved on since the original posting here.... I struggled to get Quickfile to work - it was the perfect idea but just so darned hard to install and setup!
So, I installed the Alpha8 version of Ubercart (current version as at Dec2007) and it has the option to download digital media... it worked straight out of the box! Users type in their email and a download link is sent through... works great.
I've got a simple ebook download running on www.projex.com and am working on a full blown ecommerce website at www.bullworker.com with physical and digital media.
Thumbs up to the ubercart geezers...
