Issue Summary
Hi folks,
It's been a long time since the Brazilian Portuguese translation for Drupal was abandoned. the translation was somewhat inconsistent, and we hardly had 89% from core translated.
In May I started the translation from scratch on my own, and after that I sponsored a translator to finish it.
Now we have drupal 5.x core fully translated, and drupal 6.x string freeze is coming, so i asked to be the translation mainterner.
I sent an e-mail to Recidive and Translation list in the beggining of July, and I opened an issue in d.o more than two weeks ago but he didn't tell me his position yet.
Folks, I really want to see Drupal 6.x fully translated to pt-br by release date, but I do need to organize the project before. So I'm asking you to give me the maintanership from pt-br translation.

Fixed by assigning wundo as translation maintainer.
Recidive still has cvs commit access in case they want to do that.

I'm not here to start a dispute on this, it's actually that I just want to contribute, in the better sense of the word, as it should be in Drupal project.
Almost 2 months ago I've opened an issue to get approving and commit access to Portuguese (Brazil) Translation project. And I still haven't gotten a response on this yet, despite I've been in touch with @wundo on GTalk, asking him for an input since the time I've opened the issue (actually it was him who asked me to open that).
I asked for some guidance on IRC on how to proceed on this, and they said re-opening this issue is the way to go in this case.

Sorry but I really didn't see your other issue, basically the way to go is: go to http://localize.drupal.org/translate/languages/pt-br/board, and join our discussions there.
The brazilian translation group is pretty active these days and don't remember seeing you participating there, which is a must before we give you any approving access.

Ok, so the fact that I've started the project, contributed a translation 100% from scratch and have the project taken off of me for insistence, doesn't count for me to get even my commit access back and approving access on localize.drupal.org?
I don't need to prove anything. I've been watching the discussions on localize.drupal.org and commenting on them when I see they are being constructive.
I'm gonna keep this issue open until a third person mark this as fixed.

@recidive: It would be pretty hard for anybody outside the translation team itself to tell your quality of contributions. From what I've read I assume everybody has the best of intentions. You've raised your concerns of loosing maintainership four years after the fact, so maybe giving credit to those who took the helm inbetween is in order. Now that your interest is elevated again, let's try and work together!

Ok, fair enough.
I just haven't got any explanation on why I was removed from the project. It was a right I had for starting the project. I haven't done anything bad to be penalized like this.
I have been contributing translations to localize.drupal.org, but now that I see my rights were removed, my motivations are down to 0.
I've never abandoned the project like @wundo says in this issue. I've gave him commit access as soon as I saw he was good contributor. But he wasn't fine with that and kept asking me for maintainership and pressing people on IRC for giving him maintainership. This was how he got it.
I was fine with him having maintainership of the project. Until I saw my rights were removed and that the spirit of collaboration was lost from his side, and replaced by selfishness.

Look, maintainership is moved over when we see people are not active anymore with a certain part of the project. This is not to penalize whoever became inactive, it is merely to ensure continuation of the work and give a sense of ownership to those, who actually do the work, so they are not impeded if they wish to take the project forward. People who are inactive might become active later. Looks like you are complaining almost 4 years after you lost maintainership, so I guess this situation applies.

That's the part that confuses me as well. I transferred this to Wundo, perhaps a little too quickly, and purposefully did not remove recidive.
Why remove someone if they are just inactive? Gabor's #8 points out that maintainers shouldn't be impeded, and that's true, but an inactive co-maintainer doesn't impede progress by the active one.
All that said, I'm fine with the "fixed" status in this case it seems like recidive should work to contribute on localize.drupal.org and it is true that there is only one post by recidive on l.d.o.

Historically (as in 2007 when this transfer happened), there were minimal rights assigned to co-maintainers I believe / remember. So you can only effectively take control with a maintainer being away if you became the new maintainer. Nowadays, we have a much more versatile permission structure both for d.o projects and l.d.o translation teams.

@Gábor: I was not "away" as you said (and never was, since 6+ years when I started doing Drupal full time), I was chatting with @wundo when the transfer happened. So he could easily ask me to make the changes he'd like to do on project pages, or any other thing he couldn't do as only being a committer. It looks like you haven't understood the situation. I haven't opposed to the transfer as you can see in the other issue, although I wasn't completely sure about that, and was still analyzing it and asking other translation contributors their opinion at that time. Your point doesn't explain why I was removed from the commit/maintainer list, nor I've head from @wundo any explanation on this.

Looks like @greggles did not remove you from the commit list, so I cannot answer that. Otherwise, given you complained about this almost 4 years after the fact, the only thing I could tell is you did not care inbetween, or at least it was not important for you to raise a concern. Given that, it sounds rational that someone else took them helm, doesn't it?

Yes, @greggles didn't remove me, but he transferred the ownership too quickly. And yes, it wasn't too important for me at that point, to own the translation project, since I would still be a co-maintainer.
It's been 2 months since I asked for string approval permissions, since we are planning on contributing professional translations, and don't want to have this run through the bottlenecked queue along with other low quality translations. And got no response on this. It took only 2 weeks to have the project taken off of me. And this happened when I was carefully thinking about this issue.
Translation are not just like other projects like modules that you can just make a duplicate of your own, they are one per country/language.
I'm not willing to have to contribute thousand of translated strings in order to have back what I had at some point. I don't understand how merits for personal engagement can evaporate like this, like when the translations were imported into localize.drupal.org without giving people credit for their work.
