ximo commentedIt must be your lucky day :)
I have been hired to make a competition module for a company, and am curently working on a simple contest module. I'm restricting myself to keeping it as simple as possible to begin with, because of a fast approaching deadline, but it could work as a basis for the sort of advanced contest module you're envisioning.
The specs of the first version of my contest module:
- Having a predefined set of winning numbers, users may enter their number (in this case from flyers)
- All entries are saved to the database with all available information (time, IP address, session variables, cookies, user agent etc)
- When the contest is finished, administrator will have a list of winners and will be able to send them an email telling them they've won
- Alternatively, all loosers may also receive an email saying they've lost, "but thanks for trying"
- It should be possible to spot cheaters by reviewing the gathered information before picking winners
This will be funded by this company, but I may be interested in developing it further if time/money is there.
Feel free to email me if you want to discuss this off the issue queue :)

ximo commentedI have now adopted this module, and will try to bring out a release as soon as possible. colan may also join me as a maintainer for this module, as he has plans for a similar module!
I'll update this issue once I know more.

ximo commentedI'm sorry to announce that this module will see no further development from me in the near future. I'll be a GSoC student this summer, and simply won't have the time to work on this module.
If anybody want to take over this project, please feel free to do so!
If you need a module like this, competition module might just do it for you.

bkelly commentedEntirely new project owner and codebase. The D5 version would only work at this time if somebody understood Drupal pretty well and could work through the requirements.
I expect to have the D8 version for the release of Drupal 8 and a D7 backport about the same time.
