I copied drupal 5.2 into a directory (called "Drupal") at http://www.cascadiaecofair.org and it tells me that the message I get from Firefox is:

You have chosen to open

[blank]

which is a: application/x-httpd-php
from: http://www.cascadiaecofair.org

What should Firefox do with this file?

_ Open with...
_ Save to disk

I get a similar thing when I try to run ....org/Drupal/index.php

At first, I didn't have .php support installed for that url, but I corrected that, and no change.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

What kind of hosting are you using?

If you are running this on your own host, have you restarted your webserver after installing PHP?

The problem is that your webserver is not running php. In that case, all it can do is serve the php file as a text file.

http://www.cascadiaecofair.org/Drupal/ . it worked and then you would see this message :

Drupal database setup
The following error must be resolved before you can continue the installation process:
The Drupal installer requires write permissions to ./sites/default/settings.php during the installation process.

Just give read and write access to the http://www.cascadiaecofair.org/Drupal/sites/default/settings.php file via your ftp client.
every thing should work fine from there.

Are you saying it worked when you tried it? Because that's not what I see at all.

I think I should contact my hosting company and see if they can figure it out, because it really looks like it's not recognizing php.

When I browse that URL, I get the same database message - your host does not have any trouble running php. If it did we would be offered the php file as a download too, just like you are.

Can you try to clear your browser cache? Perhaps that can explain what you are seeing.

Thanks very much for that. My web host said it looked fine to them, too. I was really starting to wonder if I was in the twilight zone. I'm in now! :)
