Images organized by gallery when attaching image

When I want to attach an image to a node, I get a choice to attach existing image or upload new image. To attach an existing image I can choose one from the list. Now all the existing images are on the same list in alphabetical order. Soon there will be a lot of images and the list gets cluttered.

Could it be possible to make finding the image easier by categorizing them by gallery? Even better would be if I could first choose the gallery where the image is and then just choose one of the images in that gallery.

It would also be nice if I could sort of assign nodes to certain galleries - so that one gallery would have, for example, all the pictures I could use for blog posts and when making a blog post I couldn't attach any other images than those in that blog gallery. But I guess this is getting a little too fancy already :) I'd be really happy to see at least the first problem solved.
