Has anyone managed to import into VMWARE Player?

What version of Virtualbox. I'm using v4.1.18 -- v4.1.16 or better is a requirement due to 3D graphics. What are your machine settings in Vbox? my experience (years ago) was Virtualbox was noticeably lighter than vmware. It's why I switched. But that was 5yrs ago. Things change. :)

Hey I ran into the same problem and was unable to use vmware. I have a macbook pro retina and the mouse cursors callabration is extremely off unless in fullscreen mode and I heard vmware has much better support for for the retina computers. Anyway to get to the point, I ran into problems on install becasue it would get stuck when trying to accept the license agreement for drupalpro. However, I found a workaround for this on the VMWARE site forum. Haven't actually tried it because I already spent too much time messing around with it, but it looks pretty straight forward and just involves a few lines of copy and pasting to change the ova to a vmdk.

sorry, new to drupal patching/commenting still learning protocol/etiquette of how/when/where to post things. anyway, not planning on patching, but tried with link I added and it works.

After reading through the thread in #2 and a number of other resources I managed to get this working. It wasn't nearly as easy as I thought it would be but it works.

Here's the steps:

1. Untar the file OVA file (tar xf "DrupalPro (32bit) beta2.ova"). It's actually a tar file that contains 4 files: configuration & 3x VMDKs)
2. Replace the OVF file with the one in the attached archive here. This is an XML settings file for the VM. I didn't write down the exact changes but it was a combination of this thread and this thread (changing VirtualSystemType, ignoring the sound card and changing the SATA disc to SCSCI)
3. Create a new tar archive with the .ova extension (tar cf drupalpro.ova "DrupalPro (32bit) beta2.ovf")
4. Add the OVF file to the archive first (tar cf drupalpro.ova "DrupalPro (32bit) beta2.ovf"). It must be at the beginning of the archive for the process to work.
5. Add the VDMK files to the archive (tar rf drupalpro.ova *.vmdk). In hindsight, I think I may have been able to just extract the OVF file and put it back in (tar xf "DrupalPro (32bit) beta2.ova" "DrupalPro (32bit) beta2.ovf"; tar cf "DrupalPro (32bit) beta2.ova" "DrupalPro (32bit) beta2.ovf") but these are the steps I took.
6. Install VMWare OVF Tool
7. Run the following ovftool --acceptAllEulas -tt=vmx drupalpro.ova drupalpro.vmx (That's your source and destination so adjust to suit)
8. Open the VMX file you just created. This will open VMWare. I'd suggest checking your settings in VMWare to ensure they match your system. I added RAM and increased the procs.
9. Install VMWare tools. I've never had any luck with the apt repositories so I typically use VMWare's suggested method here.

That's it!

I'm guessing I'll start finding issues as a result of doing. It just doesn't seem entirely clean to me. I noticed a reference to install scripts on the module page so that the environment could be built from scratch (similar to Quickstart). That seems like an ideal approach to accomplish this same task. Has there been any movement there?

It seems to me the process is even simpler.
I followed your Steps untill step 2 and then directly started the ovf in vmware player. The system was imported and is running now. Next steps will be the VMWare Tools, third party drivers and running updates but generally ubuntu is already running.
