Problemes with permissions and langiages

We have a site in Danish, English and "language-neutral" site (the latter is used for pages that is shown in both the Danish and the English version of the site).
When any role other that the admin role edits an English node, the language of the node is switched from English to Danish!!!!!!
We have looked in vain for a missing setting but cannot find any. The locale setting (administer languages) and content translation is the same for both the admin role and other roles.
We are using workbench access.
Any suggestions?

Have you set your sites default language to be English?

Danish is default.
But in general we are having a lot of trouble with languages, especially in the admin module. Even if the admin module is set to be in English for all users, here and there texts are in Danish.... As far as we understad this is a bug in druapl 7....

The problem was a setting in Configuration > Regional & languages > Administration language: Force use of default language: must be disabled
