Looking Drupal hosting with Apache Solr.
I find shared hosting with Apache Solr or only VPS or dedicated machines?

You could also consider using something like Google Custom Search or AWS Cloudsearch.

http://drupion.com gives Apache Solr for shared, VPS and dedicated servers. Another alternative is http://www.acquia.com

But since Apache Solr takes good amount of server resources, shared host is not recommended, you better go with either VPS or dedicated.

You say you have found such a host. So what is your problem there exactly?

Hi,

Solr is part of our offering. Since it runs on top of Java VM + Tomcat, usually it is kept on a separate server from the main Drupal installation. Technically, this would allow shared hosting with Solr support, but in practice it makes sense to use a VPS. If you need Solr, that means your Drupal-powered site has a lot of traffic, so a shared hosting won't fit.

Also, consider that Solr itself will require at least 1 GB of RAM to run smoothly, so for a realistic Drupal + Solr installation you'll require probably 2 GB or more total RAM. That's a far higher limit than any shared hosting could offer.

You didn't specify the preferred geographical location. Is it USA, Europe, Australia or...?
