Wow -- what a great module. Thank you.

I was talking to one of the users today and he said that he is not posting many blog entries precisely because he does not know who it is going to be read by. So I found this module. Excellent.

I have 2 sugestions:

1.
It works for 2-way buddies only, so I have to enable buddy-confirmation feature and the extra e-mails being sent out to users, whic is a bit of a drawback - because it becomes like a facebook and it can be annoying... especially to professionals, who have better things to do than confirm buddies. Otherwise, maybe users can have an extra control in their profile configuration pages that may correct this with a Privacy For My Posts checkbox:
A) When I sellect "Only My Buddies", show to my 2-way Buddies as well as 1-way buddies
A) When I sellect "Only My Buddies", show to my 2-way Buddies only

2.
Sellecting "Only my Buddies" is a great addition to privacy features, But then a person might have too many buddies, and he might not want to show that post just about to anyone.

What I was thinking is that it would also be great to have a 4th option: "Display this post only to those buddies that I sellect". Once sellected it will open up a pop-up with all my buddies and checkboxes next to them. Or maybe it could work with some kind of Java or AJAX.

Is any of this possible?

...or if this is too difficult, alternatively, this module could utilize Buddylist's group functionality (buddylist allows user to categorise contacts into groups) and thus allow the following options for visibility:

If a user has categorised his buddies into London, Manchester, New York, Rome and Athens then he would see the following options:

Anyonone
Only me
Only people in my Buddilist
Only my contacts in London
Only my Contacts in Manchester
Only my contacts in New York
Only my contacts in Rome
Only my contacts in Athens

Is this possible?

It would indeed be great to have finer control over which buddies or groups can view a node.

But the default behavior is for two-way buddies only? I'd think that the basic behavior should be that you can make information viewable to people on your buddy list, regardless of whether you are on theirs.

I will be extending this module so it works with groups. I built this for a co. who only needed this basic functionality initially, but for the next stage it will be extended to work with groups (which I should start working on next month).

& yep, I agree it would be good to make nodes available just to people on your buddylist. Maybe with an admin setting to allow one way / two way only? When I go back to working on this, I'll make the changes (unless anyone wants to submit a patch..?)

This is such a great news!!! You mean the groups in the buddylist module, right? (I renamed it as "categories" to make it sound more familiar with Outlook).

I can't wait for this new functionality in Private Nodes module. Very exciting!

PS: by the way, now that this new "Buddylist 2" is going to come out, will Private Nodes work with that too. I'm kinda suspicious of what they're doing with buddylist module... on one hand they they are adding some new functionalities and cleaning the code, on the other hand, I've got many other modules depending on the classical buddylist module and I'm not sure it they would still work with the new Buddylist-2 module.
